Report | HyBuild Los Angeles™ Phase 2 Report

HyBuild Los Angeles™ is the Green Hydrogen Coalition’s inaugural initiative to create the first scaled ecosystem for green hydrogen (GH2) in North America, targeting under $2.00/kg delivered GH2 in the LA Basin.

Since its unveiling, HyBuild LA has made considerable strides in advancing both its educational and market development work scopes in support of the initiative. Outputs from Phase 1 of HyBuild LA included a high-level system plan, cost models, preliminary demand scenarios, policy recommendations, and sample contract and term sheets. HyBuild LA Phase 2 Report: Architecting the Green Hydrogen Ecosystem For a Deeply Carbonized LA unveils the vision established in the second phase of this initiative, including:

  • An end-to-end system plan, which includes mass-scale production,GH2 transportation and storage, and multi-sectoral end user infrastructure.

  • A first-of-its-kind study (conducted by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory), which evaluates potential water use, sources, and infrastructure needed to support a GH2 ecosystem, focusing on alternative (recycled or repurposed) sources of water.

  • Learnings from direct engagement with various community stakeholders, including environmental groups, labor unions, and more.

  • Studies that quantify some of the significant community benefits — including air quality, public health, and job creation — that can be realized from the HyBuild LA vision.

  • Comprehensive policy and regulatory recommendations that address key barriers to a scaled GH2 hub.
